The thermal baths of the Jura
The thermal baths of the Jura : the history
It all began 250 million years ago. Our region was covered be a vast sea. The climate was warming up, the water evaporated and left behind banks of rock salt, covered by sediment. When the Alps were formed, many cracks appeared. Water filtered through, dissolving the rock salt and coming out again in the form of natural salt water springs. These climatic and geological phenomena have left behind a natural heritage in our region that is unique in Europe. This is how the salt water springs and the thermal baths of the Jura in Lons-le-Saunier and in Salins-les-Bains appeared. From the Middle Ages, the salt ensured local prosperity and in the 19th century, the hydrotherapy industry confirmed the health benefits of the composition of these salt waters full of trace elements that, later on, became the thermal baths of the Jura. Already known by the Romans, the therapeutic virtues of our waters were prescribed to relieve rheumatism, the after-effects of osteo-articular damage and disorders relating to growth in children such as enuresis. They are also prescribed as treatment for gynaecological pains and adapted to courses for getting back in shape and leisure. These thermal baths of the Jura and the exercise courses also can very simply provide you with a special space entirely devoted to well-being, so if you need a break, if you have a bad back or if you feel stressed : take a rest break in our baths (modelages, massages, Turkish baths, fun pool...)
Lons-le-Saunier : spa town, it has successfully preserved its charm and its remarkable living surroundings. Town of salt, the town has grown around its springs (Puits salés and Lédonia).
Salins-les Bains : small town with an attractive character and very much sought-after for leisure and outdoor sports activities. The relaxation space is open to all the family for courses running for one afternoon, 2, 3 or 6 days.
The thermal baths of the Jura welcome many people, adults and children who come to enjoy the benefits of the natural salt water springs of the Puits à Muyre and the Puits des Cordeliers in Salins-les-Bains, for example. Discovering the thermal baths of the Jura must not be missed.
