Lake Vouglans
Lake Vouglans is located on the first plateau of the Jura (429m in altitude) between Orgelet and Moirans-en-Montagne. Its 35 kilometres in length by 450 metres in width make it the third largest artificial lake in France. Lake Vouglans has three large maintained and supervised beaches : the Mercantine, Bellecin and the Surchauffant and three pleasure boat marinas : the harbours of Meix, la Sasse and la Mercantine. The facilities around Lake Vouglans have been voluntarily limited since the construction of the dam in 1970. The beaches are of sand and of grass with shade where it’s possible to have a picnic. Access is free and the swimming supervised.
Many nautical pastimes are permitted on Lake Vouglans : pedalos, motorboats, canoeing, catamaran sailing, windsurfing, water skiing... Other activities can also be practiced : climbing, archery, spelunking...
From several viewpoints, you can admire the wanderings of the lake overhung with forests stretching out as far as the eye can see in majestic fashion. You will be impressed by its 130 metre high dam. It’s a real paradise for tourists, swimmers, fishermen and walkers alike. You should all be enchanted by the beauty of Lake Vouglans.
